FAQs

What if my child is afraid of water?

This is perfectly normal. Anna is trained and committed to being relaxed, patient and understanding towards your child. Every student is taught with a gentle yet encouraging approach, recognizing that each child is uniquely different. Your child is allowed a reasonable amount of control. A positive learning environment is created with praise, toys, and activities that promote the learn to swim process.

Can my two+ kids take lessons together at the same time?

No. A child must graduate a private program course, with one-on-one instruction, before doing any group lessons. If you want to sign up siblings, we can certainly schedule them back to back, start date permitting.

Do I need to be prepared to get in the pool?

No. For new students, lessons are one-on-one with Anna. She may ask you to get in the pool at some point during your child's course to teach you what to do so that your child maintains their newly acquired skills. This will be planned so that you can dress appopriately.

Is the pool heated?

Yes. The water temperature will be between 86-90 degrees for lessons. Your child may get cold upon exiting the pool so be ready to quickly wrap them in a dry towel.

Do you offer gift cards?

The gift of lessons is such a fantastic way to show you care! If interested, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you with this!

What happens if it's raining?

We swim in the rain. You want your child to be confident in their skills no matter what kind of weather. If there is thunder and lightening within a 10 mile radius within 30 minutes of your lesson, the lesson will be cancelled. We may cancel if it's raining extremely hard and visibility is poor. Cancellation notifications will be done through Instagram and Facebook. If you don't do social media, you may text your instructor. If you don't get a response, assume your lesson is ON. Make-up lessons will be scheduled ASAP and you will receive an email notification of the date. For indoor lessons, this is a non-issue. The indoor facility is safe to use and will remain open during a thunderstorm.

How often are lessons held and for how long?

For children ages:

> 6+ months and rolling from belly to back: lessons are 10 minutes long, 4 days a week for 4 weeks.

> 12 months up to 4 years of age: lessons are 10 minutes long, 4 days a week for 6 weeks.

> 4+ years: lessons are 20 minutes long, 4 days a week for 3 weeks.

See more detailed information about the specific programs HERE.

Do you offer weekend lessons?

All programs are held during the week, Monday through Thursday. We reserve Fridays for makeups if they are needed due to weather or instructor related cancellation.

Where are swim lessons located?

Your child's lessons will either take place at St. Andrew's Family Fitness or Anna's home located behind Earth Fare in West Ashley. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a host!

How much do lessons cost?

There is a one time $100 Registration Fee. Program tuition is determined by your child's age and developmental level. Please contact us for additional pricing information.

Does my child need prior swimming experience?

No. This is a beginners program. Once your child graduates from private lessons with Anna, they will have learned age-appropriate aquatic survival skills.

Can my child wear a puddle jumper, life jacket or use a noodle in the pool during these lessons or afterwards?

Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) should NEVER be used as a recreational device. PFDs put your child in a vertical position in the water AKA "drowing position". With conginued use in the water, your child's muscle memory will revert them to this position if/when they are not wearing the PFD. Your child is working veyr hard to learn a good horizontal position in the water for proper swimming and floating. If you put them in a PFD during the course of these lessons, it will cause regression. If your child requires more lessons to graduate beacuse of this, you will be charged for those. While PFDs are not to be worn in the water, coast guard approved life vests are highly encouraged anytime your child is near a body of water.

Is the pool chlorine or salt water?

The pool is salt water.

What would I need to bring to a lesson?

A towel, dry change of clothes, wet bag, and a good protein snack. If your child is not completely potty trained, they will need a reusable swim diaper. More information about this will be provided in your welcome email prior to starting lessons when you complete your registration.

Can my child wear goggles?

No. We want your child to know that they are capable of swimming and floating without wearing goggles. If your child has extremely sensitive eyes, we will allow them to wear goggles for some of the lesson.
